Thank you for all the time you and your family took picking us up for church to receive the word of God. You all showed us so much love, We would be rushing the days and the time so we can see you all again, looking out the door waiting on y'all to pick us upWe appreciate it so much. Thanks for helping introduce Jesus to us at an early age. We love you, Mrs Wanda, your children, grands, family and friends. May God continue to bless you all in the name of Jesus, Amen."

Hi Randy. I’ve never met you but saw your story as shared by my lifelong friend Leif Rivera who had nothing but amazing, positive things to say about you. Sending love and prayers to you and your family. I hope they still mean something coming from a Navy veteran. Thank you. God Bless.

Uncle Randy. There’s so much I want to say to the uncle that is so kind hearted, such the ideal family man and just an overall a great person. I will never forget the memorable family trip you took me on for nearly a month when I was younger. Eating crab for the first time in Philadelphia and because of that, I have been hooked ever since. I recall the phone calls you made to me when I was diagnosed with breast cancer both times and the prayers that you extended and they were right on time. Thanks for just being you Uncle Randy. Your legacy has and will always remain. I LOVE YOU - your niece Carla Jenkins Ford

As a new PFC fresh out of Basic/AIT, I was afraid of everyone, lol. The SGM and I were full-time at Ellenwood back then and SGM Cowan always went out of his way to smile and ask how I was doing. He would take a moment to check-in on just me, to make sure I was still in the fight. It meant the world to me and taught me that we’re all people and a smile can go a long way. I carry that to this day in how I interact with my soldiers because of him.
Maj Gen (Ret.) Reg Neal

Uncle Randy I love you so much. There’s so much I can say about you. You have always been there for me, as a little girl and well into my adult life. You have always given me a strong foundation that I can build on. You’ve been my pastor my uncle and my friend. I will forever be grateful. You have always made us laugh at all the family gatherings. You remembered things no one thought about in years. You never let me live down yelling in the mornings Reecie the bus is coming. Between you and Mr. Frank I don’t know who was worse with that reminder. There are so many things I can say about you. You kept my head on straight when I was in the Air Force. Gave me lots of encouraging words when I didn’t think I could or wanted to stay in. Thank you for that. You will always be in my heart and I will ALWAYS treasure our bond. Thank you for all the love and support over the years. Love you

SGM Cowan. Thank you for setting the example to all of us CSM/SGM’s on being a passionate Leader and taking care of our Soldiers. You have been loved and respected by every Soldier/Leader that discussed you with me. You set the standard for the remainder of us. You and your family are covered in prayers. I Love you my Brother.
Kristina (Justice) Cromer
SGM Cowan, I feel truly honored to have known you during my time as the 648th MEB Soldier & Family Readiness Specialist. Watching you lead was a gift and your genuine care for the men and women in formation was evident in everything you did. You never missed an opportunity to offer encouragement, a kind word, or a smile, and those moments mattered more than you may have realized. You showed me, by example, what true leadership looks like: presence, compassion, and service to others. I am deeply grateful for the time you shared with me and for the lasting impact you have had on my life and my understanding of leadership. You made a lasting difference to so many people - far more than you likely realize. I’m praying for comfort for you and your family during this time.
SSG (Ret) Tracy J. Smith
My heart is broken especially for the family. Please share my thought as written here with them and our fellow brothers and sisters he touched. The navigation through grief is one of the most unwelcome journeys one will always look to not embark on. No matter the circumstance that forces us to begin that journey of change, it is always unwelcome. Many of us, however, can tell many tales of how we have thrived under his guidance and leadership. We will carry on his legacy of altruism and strength in accountability as we soldier on. My prayer is that you, his loving family and close friends, will reflect on your memories of Sgt. Major and they give you the ability to embrace a warm, thoughtful, and comforting knowing smile. The kind of sly smile he'd hide after a teachable butt chewing when you realized... I get what he was saying as you did that last push-up . Very few leaders like that still exist. But he made a point of stern, with fatherly undertones mind you, mentoring to leave a sustaining endowment of how to be the leader one can have confidence and trust that they will do the honorable thing. So... to you, his family whetherkin or chosen, thank you for allowing us to have him in our ranks and mold the future service women and men. Rest easy, Sgt. Major. We have the watch from here. Salute .
Malachi

My Friend, teacher, goals, and so much more. You are a miracle. Your life shows it and I can’t wait to hear all about all the things most people didn’t know about. Everyone around you still has the faith to hear those stories here. And, we are just imitating your faith. Thank you so much for pouring into me for so long. I can’t thank you enough.

SGM Cowan had an amazing career of service to our state and nation. His example helped shape a generation of Soldiers and leaders. It was an honor to serve with him and learn from him. My prayers remain with SGM Cowan and his family. Respectfully,

SGM Cowan was one of the best people, friends and teammates I’ve ever known! I had the privilege of working with him in the army for many years, but especially meaningful were those in Afghanistan together. He was a true family man, military hero, and most importantly, servant of God… I always admired his closeness to family his friendship with me, and his ability to buckle down and get things done in a very calm, but determined manner…God bless

Woke up thinking about Randy this morning and trying to talk with God about him but I was doing too many things. So, God had me to sit down and finish drinking my (now cold) coffee. And this is what God had to say. He reminded me, in Matthew, chapter 2, of when the angel visited Mary to give her instructions of what was about to happen and then the angel visited Joseph. They were given instructions on what to do next. Sometimes God’s instructions seem so simple we may feel like we’re not doing enough but continue to let God’s Word speak, knowing that God has already gone before us and He is our very present help. God says for us to give attention to His words and incline our ears to His sayings. Do not let them depart from our eyes; keep them in the midst of our heart. For they are life to those who find them and health to all our flesh. Proverbs 4:20-22.

To my Dear Brother, Thank you so very much for the wisdom, the love and the brotherhood that you display each and every day. You are an inspiration not just to The Spiritual Locker Room, but a pure example of what being "the salt of the earth" looks like. We are daily making our request known to God on your behalf. My family and I love you and your family.
